EFFT Parent Coaching

EFFT Parent Coaching

Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) parent coaching empowers parents with skills and techniques to make supporting their loved one with an eating disorder easier more effective. EFFT has been shown to improve outcomes in mental health treatment and reduce burnout.

We believe in supporting parents to help them feel less overwhelmed and less fearful and hopeless when supporting their children with mental health issues.

EFFT Parent Coaching usually involves a minimum of 3-6 sessions where a combination of didactic and experiential techniques are used to support parents in learning and getting comfortable using EFFT techniques.

Here are some ways that parents can support their kids using EFFT principles:

  • Becoming their loved one’s behavior coach by assisting them with the interruption of symptoms and maladaptive behaviors (anxiety, depression, eating disorder, etc.) as well as in the transition from stressful life events (a divorce, diagnosis, etc.).

  • Becoming their loved one’s emotion coach, supporting their loved one to feel, process, and manage their stress, emotions, and emotional pain, making symptoms like eating disorder behaviors unnecessary to cope

EFFT is appropriate to use with children of all ages, including adult children.
